The claim

Your balance is a constant. What it claims is not.

An ERC-20 balance is an integer in storage. It does not move unless somebody moves it. What it is a claim on is a position in a pool, priced in an asset, quoted against a market — and every one of those three moves without asking you.

One number: total assets over total supply. It is exact, it is on chain, and it is true.

Core

Three instruments, one unit

A vault, the token it gives you back, and the thing that tells you how much the unit moved while you were holding it.

Bar

A length standard is a bar. Deposit the pool asset into one and it holds the position; the Bar is the only thing that knows what a share is worth, and it tracks that in storage rather than reading its own balance.

Etalon

An étalon is the physical standard a measurement is made against. Deposit into a Bar and you hold an ordinary ERC-20 — your wallet, a DEX and a lending market all handle it with no special support — whose redemption value rises as fees are harvested in.

Fringe

Two rulers of slightly different pitch laid over each other produce fringes, and the fringe spacing is how metrology sees a difference too small to read directly. A Fringe here is one recorded reading of a Bar’s price, stamped with the block and with whether the market that prices the asset was open at the time.

Why it is called that

A standard that changes with the weather
is not a standard

In 1896 Guillaume found that iron with about 36% nickel expands roughly a tenth as much as the steel it is made from. He took the 1920 Nobel Prize in Physics for it, and the citation is about metrology rather than metallurgy: before Invar, the length of a metre bar depended on the room.

It works by cancellation. The lattice expands with temperature like any lattice; the alloy's spontaneous magnetostriction shrinks over the same range by almost exactly as much. Two large effects with opposite signs. Which is why the property dies at the Curie point — above 550 K there is no magnetisation left to cancel with, and Invar expands like the steel it is.

Every number below comes from js/invar.js, which has one fitted parameter, set at room temperature. Everything else is a prediction, and the hero above is the same model driving two rulings against each other.

The two dimension lines in the mark at the top of this page are those last two rows. Their length ratio is 25.2%, computed from the model rather than drawn, and the build fails if the shipped glyph disagrees with it.

How it works

Four contracts, one path

Every step is a call you can read on the explorer, and every mark carries the block it was taken at.

STEP 01

Deposit

You send the pool asset to the Bar. It is accounted explicitly in storage, so a stray transfer into the contract cannot move the share price for anyone.

STEP 02

Mint

The Bar mints Etalons at the current price. The first deposit pays the virtual offset; every later one pays whatever the shares are already worth.

STEP 03

Harvest

Collected fees are pushed into the Bar. The protocol cut goes to the treasury, capped in the contract, and the rest raises every share at once.

STEP 04

Redeem

Burn Etalons, take the underlying back at the price the Bar computes. No lockup, no queue, no epoch — and the mark says which clock it was taken on.

All 191 were discovered by walking pool creations on Robinhood Chain since genesis and reading each token back. The bar under each is its own tape, split by session — and the figure is the share of it that lands while the exchange is shut.

The short answers

What is an Etalon?

An ERC-20 representing a claim on a Bar holding a pool asset. One Etalon is worth totalAssets / totalSupply of the underlying, and that number only rises as fee income is harvested in. Your wallet, a DEX and a lending market all handle it with no special support.

Is there a lockup?

No. Redeem in any block, at the price the contract computes. What the contract also does — and what nothing else in this category does — is record which block, so the number can be read against the clock the underlying trades on.

Is any of this actually deployed?

The measurement is live and reads the chain with no key. The app deploys a Bar from your own wallet, which makes you its owner. Nobody has deployed a canonical one and there is no token. The Curie point page states it part by part.

Can I lose money?

Yes. The Bar holds a tokenised equity; that can fall, its issuer can act on it, and these contracts are unaudited. The share price cannot fall from anyone else's deposit or redemption — that is a property the build executes — but a share price that holds while the asset falls is not protection.

The applive

Deploys a Bar from your own wallet on Robinhood Chain. Every write is simulated with eth_call from your address first. No key exists in this repository and none can — which is also why nobody has deployed a canonical Bar: it takes gas from a wallet, and this site holds none.

Deployed Barsnone yet

The app scans the chain for the event a Bar emits in its own constructor and lists whatever it finds. At the last scan that was nothing, which is a real answer rather than an error. Deploy one and it appears, with no registry to update.

There is no solver network here and nothing on this site pretends there is. It is named on the roadmap and nowhere else.
